The Alleghany Partnership For Children strives to provide support for families and the general public to encourage and prepare all children and youth in Alleghany County physically, socially, emotionally, educationally and recreationally for the challenges of the future.

The Alleghany Partnership For Children is a charitable non-profit, exempt under section 501(C)3 of the IRS code. It is operated under the direction of a Board of Directors composed of local representatives from government, service agencies, business and families and established in accordance with Smart Start legislation passed by the North Carolina General Assembly. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Partnership directly provides programs to the public and provides support to other activities in the community.

In addition to administrative services, following programs are provided at the central office at 507 North Main Street, Sparta:

Child Care Resources assists parents in locating quality childcare and provides technical assistance to childcare centers and homes.

DANA provides assistance to victims of Domestic Abuse, Sexual Assault, Crime Victims, and Homeless individuals who meet certain criteria.  Services to include: Emergency shelter, court advocacy, assistance in finding permanant housing, support group, assistance with filling out restraining orders and crime victim compensation forms, referral and general information. DANA also provides educational programs to the community on all aspects of domestic abuse and referral services for abusers.

In cooperation with Wilkes Community College, the Family Resource Center provides instruction to parents seeking their high school diploma with on-site childcare. It also provides after-school tutoring programs, Wings educatonal modules for preschool children and interactive playgroups for parents and their preschool children. Transportation is available for most programs.

The Education Station is located at the north end of the Glade Creek School campus in a renovated former fire station. It offers interactive playgroups for parents and their preschool children. It also offers the Firehouse Kids, a preschool enrichement program for 3- and 4-year olds Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings during the school year.
