Cyber Campus
The A. Anderson Huber Cyber Campus continues to propel technology to the education forefront. It is unique among the classrooms at Alleghany High School. As part of the North Carolina Information Highway (NCIH), and connected by state of the art technology to other institutions of higher education in the state, its classrooms are designed to take advantage of a new wave in how students can be taught -- distance learning.In-desk computers with Internet access, dual 36-inch color monitors, a full-wall video screen and a document projector ensure students can see exactly what is being taught and by whom. Front and rear classroom cameras with zoom controls and highly sensitive microphones mean instructors can see and hear every student's reactions, comments, and questions! Because of these capabilities, the A. Anderson Huber Cyber Campus is a satellite campus of both Wilkes Community College and Appalachian State University. Utilizing the NCIH, the Cyber Campus is able to offer a variety of programs that expand the learning opportunities for all Alleghany County students and residents. The Fast Track program gives students the opportunity to earn one high school credit and one college credit for the same class. Master degree programs and a variety of professional development courses are provided for teachers, health professionals and local community agencies. In addition, advanced marketing media and video capabilities enable the student-intern staff to produce high quality products in a variety of mediums and formats. Thanks to the continued support of government, businesses and community organizations, present and future generations can participate in learning experiences, which were once thought to be unachievable. The Cyber Campus is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
