Alleghany County
Public Library

122 North Main St., Sparta NC alg@nwrl.org 336-372-5573

The Alleghany County Public Library promotes the love of reading and fosters the pursuit of knowledge among the residents of Alleghany County.

Alleghany County Public Library makes books and information, expert help and current technology available to all residents, rich and poor, young and old. Libraries are fundamental to learning and education and are fundamental links to the heart and soul of the communities of which they are part. Public libraries are the most effective and efficient way to ensure that people are well informed because they serve as a gateway to the world of information that is free and readily available to everyone.

Online library resources are available to patrons from their home computers and through Alleghany County Public Library public access computers. These include access to the regional library online catalog; and NC Live, a gateway to newspapers, journals, magazines and other electronic information.

Our summer reading program begins June 24 at 3:30 p.m. and runs through July 29 at 3:30 p.m., each Tuesday with two exceptions. There is no program the week of July 4th and we have a special program, Snakes Alive, on Monday, June 21, at the Higgins Center, instead of Tuesday at the library. These programs are geared for kindergartners through sixth graders (Snakes alive is open to everyone, children or adults, regardless of age).

Toddler and pre-school storytime is held on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. (toddlers) and 11 a.m. (pre-schoolers). Parents or caregivers are required to attend with the child.
