New River is the region's largest provider and manager of mental health, substance abuse, and developmental disabilities services. It offers a full range of crisis, therapy, day treatment, and a variety of on-going support services to children, adolescents, families, and adults.New River Behavioral HealthCare's purpose is to ensure the accessibility of high quality, affordable, consumer-centered behavioral health care services and supports so that people with disabilities can live successfully in their chosen communities. Founded in 1964, New River has MHDDSA offices in five counties and several satellite locations where specialized services are housed in the High Country. In Alleghany County, New River is located at 1650 Hwy. 18 South, Sparta, NC. The hours of operation are 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
