Alleghany Campus
Wilkes Community College
The Alleghany Campus of Wilkes Community College is located at 115 Atwood Street,
Sparta, in a newly rennovated textile factory with the Blue Ridge Business
Development Center and Job Link Center. The synergy of these institutions
working toward the common goal of meeting the educational, technology and
employment needs of the county helps secure the future of Alleghany
County.Curriculum classes are offered in Business Administration, Accounting, Early Childhood, Human Services Technology, Arts and Sciences, and Office Systems Technology. Students attend classes in a variety of classroom settings including regular classroom, individualized study, telecourse format, or Cyber classroom located at Alleghany High School. Huskins Bill classes are available to Alleghany High School students 9th to 12th grades before, during and after the curriculum day. Students earn college credit through this program and concurrent enrollment students, 16 years or older, may attend classes at the Alleghany Campus for college credit. The concurrent enrollment program allows students to enter any major or general education program prior to high school graduation. Adult High School and Adult Basic Education programs operate year round. The Adult High School program allows students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma awarded by the Alleghany County Board of Education and WCC or prepare for the General Equivalency Examination. An active volunteer program assures that students receive personal attention and one-on-one instruction. Small business seminars, in-service industrial training, job-skill development, and enjoyable community service classes are available. Occupational Extension classes include Firefighter, Emergency Service, Criminal Justice, and Health Occupations training. The Alleghany Campus is supported by a growing student enrollment. It offers a variety of educational opportunities at a convenient location to meet the needs of residents of Alleghany County. The building also houses the Job Link Center. Job Link provides employment and training services to residents through its partners which include North Carolina Employment Security Commission, Wilkes Community College/JTPA, Vocational Rehab, Work First, and Job Ready. Job placement, and assistance with education are just some of the services they provide.
