What is eAlleghany.Net?
A community presence on the World Wide Web that would serve as a comprehensive source of information on the county and the services available here. Government, non-profit and civic groups are encouraged to take this opportunity to have a web presence on eAlleghany.net.
What information is required?
We prefer that you enter information online (it saves someone having to retype it). The entry form is located at here. Complete the information for each category, review it thoroughly and then click the Send button. Click the Clear button ONLY if you want all the information erased and return to a blank form. Please, type up the description in a word processing document and save that on your computer. Occasionally, a submission gets lost in cyberspace. Having that long piece saved will make it easier if you have to resubmit material.
A picture of the building or location of your agency or organization is included on the webpage. We can take the picture for you, but if you have a picture you would particularly like used, contact me, Bob Bamberg, at 372-2883 / handybob@skybest.com. If you are a small organization and don't have an office, a logo or other graphic may be used instead, contact me to discuss your options.
What information should I include in the description?
Briefly cover the kinds of information that would be helpful to a resident seeking the services of your agency or organization. Try to limit yourself to 500 words. Go to eAlleghany.Net, click on Local Government or Civic/Non-Profit and see what other organizations have done. You are encouraged to include only staff members (and phone numbers and email addresses, if different from the main number) you want to be directly contacted by the public for particular services.
Would there be any charge to participating organizations?
No, this is provided at no cost.
How would my page be updated?
You will be insturcted in how to update your page. It should be no more complicated than filling out a form on a computer.
What would our URL (Internet address) be?
The address for government offices/agencies would be eAlleghany.Net/government/name/ . Civic and non-profit groups would be eAlleghany.Net/civic/name/ .
What if my organization already has a website?
The site has a search option for individuals looking for particular services. If only a link to your current website is included, you won't come up in the search results. So we prefer that all local organizations have a page on eAlleghany.Net. However, if you have a current website, we will gladly include a link to that site on your webpage.
Would we need to be connected to the Internet to participate?
It is important that organizations with a site on the web have a email address where they can be reached. And an Internet connection is required to update your site. If you don't have an organizational Internet connection, consider assigning the responsibility to handle email and updating your page to one of your members. We can help you set-up an email address for your organization.
